kieran is quite shy and reserved when he's not on stage, easily embarrassed and prefers to lurk in his brother's shadow where he knows he'll be safe. it is easier for him to not speak up and to be the quiet half of the duo, because he knows he's less likely to get hurt this way. he's more than happy to let his brother be his voice, really only letting himself be heard on stage where he can blow people's minds with his singing and his lyrics, the tunes he and his brother have composed together always making a scene. everything is perfect, because it has to be. no mistakes. kieran has a bit of an ocd about things going right, convinced that people will hurt him if he doesn't do it right the first time, and will get upset at himself, though he'll try not to show it. he tends to lose himself in the bottom of a bottle, so a lot of people assume he doesn't talk because he's an alcoholic, when really he's simply cripplingly shy and subservient.

kieran anderson was born as part of a dynamic duo to indifferently rich parents who had the boys raised by nannies. kieran was always the quiet and shy one, and as such received far more attention from their mother, since she really couldn't stand children with an opinion. this was a fact that his brother resented, always calling him the favoured one. kieran has a bit of a childish mind and can slip between seeming perfectly adult and as eager and gullible as a child of about 6 years old. his parents believed he had a medical condition, but never sought help as that was far too much effort on their behalf. besides, they could never admit that their perfect family had a problem. as a result, kieran leaned more and more on his brother, who had developed a keen interest in music and dragged kieran along with him. they soon discovered that kieran had a naturally talented voice which became astounding with training, and he had a killer instinct for writing songs. kieran was happy to whittle away his time writing song after song, a fact his brother became obsessive about, wanting kieran to work faster, to do better. kieran was 13 when his brother first hit him, and he would never forget it. he tried harder that night, collapsing into his bed sobbing, discarded sheets of paper crumpled around him, his clothes tossed messily on the floor, only to have his brother slip into bed behind him in an equal state of undress, full of softly spoken apologies and tight hugs on naked skin which soon turned to kisses upon his neck, lips, and before he knew it they were making love in a painful but meaningful embrace which assured kieran of his brother's love, no matter how wrong it really was.

after that, the beatings came more regularly, his brother always slipping between his sheets at night to apologise in his special way, a special way which had started to happen even when kieran wasn't black and blue from failure. he was in love with his own brother, and no matter how much his stomach twisted in self disgust at the realisation that this was his brother, that they had the same parents and blood, kieran simply couldn't stop himself from kissing his brother the moment they were alone. he loved him. at the age of 15, both boys were rewarded for their excellence in songwriting and musical skills with a scholarship to cathedral high school. their parents money assured them a private room with two double beds, only one of which was ever used, the others sheets crumpled to look slept in. in their bedside drawers lay a first aid kit, so that kieran never had to leave the room when he was hurt, so they didn't arouse suspicion, and to add to the image of his crippling shyness which made him so damn mysterious and left everyone wanting to get to know him.
